The Dove
The Knotwork Dove design represents Clann a' Chalmain in many ways. The knotwork pattern presents our Celtic heritage. The interior green strand represents us, in our finitude, growing in the Christian Faith. The simple red loop represents the blood of Jesus and His simple Gospel: that Christ died for us while we were yet sinners and was raised again on the third day to reconcile us to God. The all-encompassing yellow knot represents the glory of God, surrounding, filling, and giving form and purpose to everything we do.

The dove itself has a long symbolic history. It was a dove that Noah sent from the ark that found the evidence of God's faithfulness to His creation. It was in the form of a dove that the Holy Spirit descended upon our Lord Jesus Christ at His baptism. It was Saint Columcille, the "Dove of the Church," who established the monastic order at Iona and evangelized the Scots of Dalriada and the northern Picts. It is the dove which, in today's symbology, represents peace. We strive to promote the peace of the Holy Spirit among God's people, and it is the Gospel of the Prince of Peace which we proclaim: that Jesus came to bring peace between God and man.
